Summer at Apex; cool, green, relaxed. Get away from the heat and dust of the valley and escape to the fresh alpine air. Check out the fishing at Nickel Plate Lake, or bring your horses up, keep them overnight at the barn and use Saddleback Lodge as your 'bed and bales' base and Barb as your guide to riding the back country. Come back to a barbeque on the deck and glass or wine, cold beer and a hot tub under the stars, topped off with a great sleep, wow, I'm going! Dual Sport Bike Tours; This area, including Green Mountain Road is known as some of the best bike tours around, well with a dual sport bike, you can combine amazing paved roads with great dirt roads. Deezul at Saddleback Lodge has his dual sport bike and can send you in the right direction. Coming from Vancouver; take the Hedley Nickel Plate Road to Saddleback Lodge, have dinner, stay the night and then take Keremeos Creek Road to Green Mountain Road etc. and on through the Okanagan or over to the Kootenays. The area is also great for dirt biking! Mine tours : This area is famous for historic mines; the Mascot Mine now has guided tours out of Hedley, just 45 minutes from Saddleback Lodge, while the mine itself is just 15 minutes away. It may be possible to book a group tour and meet the tour bus at the mine site if you are staying at the lodge. Check out the website for more info; www.mascotmine.com/
